Title: Spence Bros. & Co. (S102.3-1)
Post by: Alan on December 25, 2017, 10:24:25 PM
I hope evreryone had a great Christmas.

I've been looking through some of the older American football things in my database that I haven't yet featured on my blog. There were only two and I've sorted out some information about one of them, John Mundell & Co., Philadelphia.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything these cards:

c1895
Cricket & Football Scenes
Spence Bros. & Co.
USA
4 cards known

Football scene - 2 players
Football scene - 5 players
Cricket scene
Cricket scene

The company appear in the World Index Vol II and IV (S102.3-1) so I presume they are tobacco issues, but I've no idea where I got the information about these four cards from.

All I can find is in the old World Index Part V, on page 324 it mentions the 4 cards you know about, and has illustrations of the 2 cricket cards.

Thanks for letting me know. I've only got  Volumes III and IV but I think I must have borrowed Volume V from the CSGB Library many, many years ago.
