Hello another newbie
« on: August 20, 2014, 03:35:49 AM »
Hi,I purchased my first cigarette card in 1977 and stuck it into a scrap book paid about 5p for it.
I had a Newfoundland dog at the time and collected anything and everything related to the breed, bronze, bisque and porcelain figures, novelty items, postcards, prints and cigarette / trade cards .
Then I realised that with cigarette cards you could complete full sets, OK I had 1 Taddy dog and my mission was to complete the set, many years later with only 5 cards left to find I succumbed (wine induced) and purchased a full set on ebay.
I still collect dog cards and any other cigarette or trade card that I find interesting.
And more importantly I have a Newfy named Nixie who will be 7 in november.
So thats a newbie with a newfy called nixie.

Welcome to the forum Outpost. A new member with a sense of humour should fit in very well indeed, particularly if you continue with the alliteration!

Nnnnnnnice to see a new member jump into the waters .

Welcome to the forum Outpost and Nixie , not a bad starting price of 5p a card but I suspect that bottle of wine cost you slightly more than the supermarket price .
It's ( in my humble opinion) good that you haven't just stuck to cigarette cards but have included trade cards into your collection as I'm sure it will make better viewing for you and also other newfy owners who might take a look at your cards .

What's the earliest issue date you have ?

I have a set of Wills cards circa 1896, and several American cards circa 1886.
The earliest dog cards must be Goodwin and Ellis both 1890. But my favorite card is from the Kimball Household pets 1891.
