How to post pictures on the site
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:48:51 PM »
1. When you've typed in your text look for the 'Additional Options' link at the bottom.
2. Click on it and a form will open up.
3. Click on 'Browse' and find the picture you want to upload on your computer (make sure that your file is not larger than 900kb).
4. Click on 'Open' and the file will be selected.
5. If you want to attach more than one picture click on '(more attachments)'.
6. When you've selected enough pictures click the 'Post' button at the bottom and your post with your attached pictures will be uploaded to the site.

Or ...
  • find the picture that you want to include (it must be on t'interweb somewhere) and right click on it;
  • go to 'properties';
  • COPY the address;
  • come back to your post here;
  • click on the 'Insert Image' icon;
  • paste your copied URL into the space between the two bracketed sections;
  • click POST
And that, should be that!
This will give you full-sized pictures rather than attached thumbnails at the bottom of your post.

What can you do if the photos you've taken are over 900kb?  Can you 'reduce' them?

Use free software such as Photoscape - download for free off CNet - and you can do a lot of simple stuff like, cropping, straightening, touching up and resizing! It's easy to resize and the file will be smaller than the original and so can be uploaded onto here.

It's easy to use and free. It's the software that I use for my stuff.

I use paint.net, Baz.
Free to download, easy to use and does some nifty stuff.

And, yes - you simply reduce the dimensions of the picture.

Trouble is guys I use an ipad from work, which seems far more complicated than the old computer.

There's a free iPhone/iPad app called "resizer", you can resize pictures using this too. ;)

It's not necessarily the size of the picture in terms of pixels.  It's also the quality of the picture.  When you store a JPEG image there is an option to specify the quality, i.e. the amount of compression.  Whatever program you use to process images, try to store it as a jpg and look at the compressed image in a preview window.  Increase the compression as much as you can without messing up the image too much.  You should be able to fit a "normal" card image into 20kB.

^ ^ ^
Correct, Ian.
I didn't mention this simply because I didn't want people to sacrifice/compromise the quality of the image.
The size is fair game though ...
