Thank Magpiemick for providing the information re this card set.  It is very helpful.  I have several cards both with the "Ld" and without the "Ld" and four cards with just the tabacco leaf. Your information raises several questions:
1. Eventhought there are variations in the backs are soldiers portrayed in the same except for the 1 card- the drummer.
2. Could you be more specific as to the drummer's description, i.e. country etc.
3.  The numbering is strange.  Normally un-numbered cards are grouped by country or other common feature whereas the card numbering in this series appears random.
4. Finally it would be greatly appreciated if you could proivded the listing mentioned  in your prior comments.  Thank you again Tonkon100

Tonkon here is the full text that may answer your questions
SOLDIERS OF THE WORLD
There are two distinct series of basically similar subjects under this title
1 102 standard sized cards : each printing being a selection of subjects Issued 1895-7 Similar series issued by Chocolate D Aigubelle in France and Paul C Kaiser in Holland ( 50 numbered )
A Green scroll back with Ltd in circle No playing card insert Series of 100 excluding the two England subjects Two thickness of board The subject France Infantry ,,is also inscribed French Cards are found over stamped on back Acme Cigarettes Co,s Free sweep These were issued in South Africa by that newly formed company
B Green scroll backs Ltd in circle with playing card insert ( 52 ) Playing card value corresponds in the list I already gave including both the England subjects In this edition the Roumanian subject has the word Chasseur before Non commissioned officer to leave room for Wills Cigarettes which appears at the base of the card

Green scroll backs without Ltd in circle Overseas issue Unnumbered series of 101 omitting the England Officer of Royal Engineers The other England subject often erroneously referred to as The Drummer boy ( England Drummer Coldstream Guards )   is noticeably scarcer that the remainder of the series

E A modified green scroll back Numbered (50) Issued in Australia The numbers are shown in the list I have given you and comprise all the subjects NOT issued in the playing card set they are confined to soldiers from Europe India and Egypt The quality of pictures in this group are noticeably sketchy There were at least two printings and notably commas were added in the second series e.g No 35 " Austria Officer , Dragoons "

Again thank you magpienick for your comments.  Unfortunately the information you have access to in the UK is not readily available in the States.  I think it will be a challenge to figure out what exactly the cards I have represent.
