Hi from another Newbie
« on: June 28, 2014, 04:33:25 AM »
Hello I'm Heath and found this site a few days ago.
I have written this elsewhere on the site but I was born and grew up in Loughborough, Leicestershire.
My family took a ship to Australia in 1971 and I live in Melbourne.
My early experience of collecting was getting the tea cards from my Nan and swapping them at school. Also getting cards in bubble gum,(wish I still had them,I think my old man sold everything we owned as a bulk lot before emigrating). They were the Batman and Civil War sets.
I graduated to cigarette cards and now attend card fairs here and occassionally buy from Ebay.
Particular interests are cricket, Beauties and Kings and Queens - though I have lots of others.
It is really nice to find a place where others share my hobby.  :)

Hello and welcome to the forum Heath.

Your old man should have kept your gum cards  :(

I note you live in Melbourne.Do you watch any Aussie rules football?
I have been watching it over here since the early 1990's either on TV
or via the internet.I have a soft spot for Hawthorn, they were the first
team I saw play.I particulaly remember a terrific player named John Platten.

I would sooner watch it over Rugby any day.  :)

Thanks Captain,
Yeah we are aussie footy fans - my brother is a huge Hawthorn fan, we go for Collingwood.
I see the Civil War News cards going for a ton of money on ebay -  :-\

ps Yeah John Platten was a great player.
